Norwell boys reach semi-final at final CWOSSA tournament

PALMERSTON – The Norwell District Secondary School Varsity Reds boys hockey team travelled to the Simcoe area March 4 and 5 to compete in the ‘AA’ CWOSSA championships.

In pool play on March 4 in Delhi, the Reds won all three games with victories of: 4-1 over St. David from Waterloo, 3-1 over Holy Trinity from Simcoe, and 5-1 over Sacred Heart from Walkerton.

Next up for Norwell, was a semi-final match on March 5 in Simcoe with league rival Bishop Macdonell from Guelph.

Despite outshooting their opponent 45-24, the Reds came out on the wrong end of a heart-breaking 3-2 shootout defeat after 10 additional minutes of overtime did not break the tie.

Scoring for Norwell at CWOSSA were Cody F. and Reed M. with three goals each, Kanyon C. and Ryan L with two each, and Josh B., Ethan M., Jake M. and Cole K. with singles.

The goalie trio of Drew C., Kyle L. and Ettiene G. combined to give up just five goals in four games. 

“The entire team can be proud of representing the school with class, skill and tremendous passion to win,” Norwell officials stated.

The team ended the season with an impressive record of 18 wins, eight losses, and  four ties. 

Officials offered special wishes of good luck in the future to  graduating players Owen S., Kanyon C., Ethan M., Cole K. and Drew C.
