Nominations open for next federal Liberal candidate in Guelph

GUELPH – The Liberal Party of Canada has opened the federal Liberal nomination for Guelph, signalling the period during which individuals interested in seeking the nomination can formally put their names forward.

This follows the decision last year by Guelph MP Lloyd Longfield not to seek re-election in 2025, citing nearly a decade of service.

The next fixed election date is currently scheduled for 2025.

The date for the Liberal nomination selection has yet to be set, but the opening of the nomination signals the start of the period where individuals interested in seeking the nomination can formally submit their intention to the party.

It also marks the beginning of the period where candidates seeking the nomination will sign up hundreds, if not thousands of supporters.

Sean Mitchell, Chair of the Guelph Federal Liberal Association, stated that individuals over the age of 14 interested in participating in the nomination process are able to sign up online for a free Liberal Party membership.

Those interested in seeking the nomination can request forms from the Liberal Party of Canada, or by contacting the Guelph Federal Liberal Association by emailing chair@gfla.com.
