Food bank shelves are starting to show gaps, making it difficult to provide food support to those who rely on this service.
During March Break, citizens are asked to remember those who don’t get a break from hunger and need the food bank to assist them with the proper nutritional food support.
“It’s a tough time of year and it’s getting harder all the time for families to make ends meet. We are seeing more and more families turn to the food bank for support and the increase in usage makes it that much more challenging to keep our shelves stocked to meet the need,” said Alyssa Cunningham, care coordinator with East Wellington Community Services (EWCS).
“We are so thankful to our community for all the help they provide with food donations and that’s why we are reaching out to them again. We need their help so we can manage through these last winter months and provide our clients necessary food support.”
A list of items that are desperately needed includes:
– rice;
– hearty soups and stews;
– jam;
– canned pasta stews and chili;
– sugar;
– hot cereals (such as oatmeal);
– canned ham, chicken, and turkey; and
– juice, tea and coffee.
Donations can be dropped off to the office at 45 Main Street in Erin or to the Seniors Room at Centre 2000, located at 14 Boland Dr., also in Erin.
“All donations are truly appreciated so that the food bank can continue to help those who need it the most in the community,” EWCS officials state in a press release.
