New Nestle Waters permit delayed

It appears the search for a secondary well in Puslinch Township has again been delayed by Nestlé Waters Canada.

The company’s proposed application for permission to take water at a Gilmour Road site has been put off this fall.

On Sept. 21 Puslinch councillors received a copy of an email from Don DeMarco of Nestlé Waters.

“We’re not going to proceed with a PTTW (permit to take water) application this fall,” Demarco said. “Will keep you posted on further developments.”

Councillors appeared puzzled at the lack of information in the message, wondering aloud if the decision was because of the lateness in the year or the results of earlier tests.

Councillor Susan Fielding said it was a rather terse letter.

“Does the clerk have any insight to the reasoning?” she asked.

Clerk Brenda Law replied the note referred only to not proceeding this fall.

“It’s not going to go away; perhaps they just ran out of time this year,” said Law.

Mayor Dennis Lever added additional zoning information was passed along to the proponent.

When asked about the content of the email, Nestlé Waters’ director of corporate affairs John Challinor stated, “It’s just timing; nothing major.”
