MOUNT FOREST - The annual Mount Forest Fireworks Festival is the latest major event to be cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Organizers announced the cancellation  of the event, originally scheduled for July 17 to 19, in an April 21 press release.

"It is with heavy hearts that the Mount Forest Fireworks Festival announces the cancellation of the 2020 [festival] and the postponement of our 20th anniversary," stated festival chair Sharon Wenger.

She noted festival officials were monitoring COVID-19 developments and had "remained hopeful that this situation would improve enough that we would be able to move forward" with the 2020 festival.

"Our priority, however, is to encourage the ongoing recovery efforts due to the unprecedented COVID-19 pandemic and ensure that our guests, vendors, entertainers, volunteers and committee members are safe and healthy so we may continue putting on our great festival for years to come," stated Wenger.

The committee will now focus on planning the 2021 festival, including a 20th anniversary celebration, she added.

"We hope everyone stays safe and well during this trying time," Wenger stated.
