Moorefield truck coming

It now appears January 2009 is the target for the purchase of a new fire rescue truck for the Moorefield fire station.
Mapleton Mayor John Green suggested the township proceed with the purchase next year, “in light of the information we have.”
Firefighters expressed safety concerns with the vehicle, including that it is severely overweight and has trouble sustaining speeds over  60km/hour.
Green had stated that buying the truck this year would mean a 4% increase in taxes for Mapleton residents. But by 2009 the township will likely have more reserves available, Green said on Jan. 8.
He thinks the reported price of a new vehicle is somewhat high - between $150,000 and $200,000 - but if the purchase is delayed until 2009, council could probably find the funds.
Councillor Dennis Craven said he thinks aiming for next year is a great idea. It will take six to nine months for the committee to work out the details anyway, he said.
