Minto signs 3-year deal with Palmerston ’81s

While one often hears of players signing multi-year deals with hockey clubs, in this case it is the Town here signing a three year deal with the Palmerston ’81s hockey club.

On Dec. 2, council passed a bylaw authorizing the mayor and clerk to execute an agreement between the town and the club. The bylaw creates a three-year agreement with the municipality for the use of the Palmerston arena and its facilities.

Councillor David Turton said it was great for staff to come up with a three year contract with the local hockey club. “I admire that, and thank them for that,” he said.

Turton was aware of some of the issues ta few years ago, when the group was considering leaving because it felt the municipality was not treating it right.

“This is really encouraging,” he added.

Mayor David Anderson agreed. “It sure is,” he said.

Councillor Barb Burrows asked if there is any substantial difference from the previous agreements with the club.

Treasurer Gord Duff, who had spoken with Recreation Director David Stonley a few hours earlier, said there was nothing substantial changed in the revised contract.

Anderson agreed. “I read through this and didn’t see anything. It’s nice they feel strong enough to be in for a three year term.”

Council then approved the bylaw.
