Minto council approves appointments

Minto council passed a bylaw approving council and citizen appointments to committees at the Dec. 16 meeting.

All council members were appointed to the committee of adjustment, chaired by Mayor George Bridge.

All council members will also serve on the finance committee, chaired by councillor Mary Lou Colwell; fire and emergency measures committee, chaired by deputy mayor Ron Faulkner and the public works committee, chaired by councillor Dave Turton.

Turton will also represent council on the drinking water quality management standards team which ensures municipal compliance with provincial clean water legislation is maintained.

The economic development committee includes councillors Colwell, Jean Anderson and Ron Elliott, as well as citizen appointees representing various sectors: Jonathan Zettler (agriculture),  Joel Koops (manufacturing), John Mock ( commercial), Cheryl Fayle (education) and Hope Robertson (information technology).

Minto’s parks and recreation advisory committee will be chaired by Elliott and include: Turton and citizen appointees Bob McEachern, Dorothy Grotenhuis, Bill Raynard, Gerald Koeslag and Geoff Gunson.

The property standards committee will consist of Faulkner and citizen appointees George Strachan, Brad Richardson, Dave Burns and Kim MacKenzie.

Turton will represent council on the Harriston revitalization committee, while Elliott will serve on the Palmerston revitalization group and Anderson on the Clifford revitalization committee.

Colwell and Anderson were appointed to the Minto Cultural Roundtable, along with citizen appointees chair Andrew Gowan, Willa Wick, Nichola McEwan, Peggy Raftis, Megan Raftis  and Brooke McLean.

Councillor Judy Dirksen will represent council on the Minto Farmers Market Palmerston committee, while Colwell will sit on the Harriston market committee

Councillor Jean Anderson was appointed to the Clifford Jamesway Manor non-profit housing corporation.

Minto’s senior advisory committee consists of: chair Ross Wilkie, Jim Connell, Doug Anderson, Bob Wallace, Jean Wallace, Lyle Murray, Alieda Murray, Dodi Reid and councillor Anderson.

Faulkner and Dirksen represent council on Minto’s Trees for Farms committee.

The Launchit Minto board of directors includes: councillor Colwell and citizens Hope Robertson, Glen Hall, Ralph Drost, Justin McIntosh, Ryan Koeslag, Nichola McEwan, Calvin Frey and Shannon Duff.

Dirksen will represent council on the North Wellington Health Care board.

Elliott will represent council on the Norgan Theatre board, which also includes citizen appointees: chair Scott McFadden, Amber Tuck, Elaine Elliott, Chris Dick, Jane Toner and Delanie Toner.

Minto will be represented on the Maitland Valley Conservation Authority by Turton and the Saugeen  Valley Conservation authority by Wellington North councillor Steve McCabe.

Mayor George Bridge will be Minto’s representative to Westario Power.

The mayor is also an ex-officio member of all town committees.
