Minto Arts Gallery presents Country Horizons; opening night is Feb. 6

MINTO – The Minto Arts Gallery will be presenting a new show entitled Country Horizons that includes paintings by artist Vaghn Gillson.

Opening night is on Feb. 6 from 6:30 to 8pm and the show will be open to the public until Feb. 28.

Guests can visit the third floor location in the Harriston Library Building at 88 Mill Street in Harriston to view the paintings.

The show features a collection of impressionistic styled paintings by Gillson, who is a local artist from Fordwich in neighbouring Huron County.

Gallery officials note the paintings describe some of the rural expanses of Huron, Bruce and Perth Counties and their agricultural foundations.

Most of the paintings present some historical features of the Maitland River at Fordwich.

Gillson now resides in rural Ontario. Her painting themes include landscape, still life and figure work.

Officials say her process is based on classical painting and drawing technique which she has studied for many years.

Gallery hours vary and can be found on the Minto Arts website at mintoartscouncil.ca. Admission is by donation.
