McGinn traded to Colorado Avalanche

Fergus native Jamie McGinn now has a new home away from home.

On Monday, the day of the National Hockey League’s trade deadline, the 6-foot-1, 210-pound left winger was dealt from the San Jose Sharks to the Colorado Avalanche.

“The trade was a little bit of a shock at first,” McGinn told NHL.com on Tuesday.

“Now I’m looking at the big picture and I’m really excited. I’m really happy to be an Avalanche and I see a lot of potential when I look at the lineup and I’m really happy to be a part of their plans.”

Heading to the Avalanche along with McGinn are prospects Mike Connolly and Michael Sgarbossa in exchange for  Daniel Winnik, TJ Galiardi and a seventh-round pick in the 2013 NHL Draft.
