Man in wheelchair dies after being hit by van

A local man died in the hopital on Wednesday, three days after his wheelchair was struck by a minivan.

On June 19 at about 6:20pm, emergency crews were called to collision between a Dodge minivan and a wheelchair occupied by a man near the intersection of Elora Street South and Yonge Street in Harriston.

Wellington County OPP officials say wheelchair operator Normand Belair, 55, of Harriston, was taken to local hospital by ambulance and then airlifted to a London hospital with serious injuries.

Three days later, on June 22, Belair succumbed to his injuries.

The driver of the minivan, a 69-year-old Harriston woman, was not injured in the collision.

Police say the cause of the crash is still under investigation and they encourage witnesses to call 1-888-310-1122.
