Details have yet to be confirmed, but it appears Guelph-Eramosa council will participate on Jan. 1 in the municipality’s first New Year’s levee in some time.

Rockwood Lions Club member Darryl Nichol said on Monday night his club is willing to host the event at the Rockmosa Community Centre if councillors are able to attend.

“It’s our way of thanking you for the support you’ve shown us over the years,” Nichol told council.

He explained levees, which years ago were held annually in the area, provide residents an opportunity, over several hours on New Year’s Day, to meet and mingle with councillors and offer their best wishes.

“I think it would be a neat thing to do,” said councillor Doug Breen, who admitted he was previously not very familiar with levees.

With the exception of Mayor Chris White, who was unsure if he would be home from a holiday trip, the rest of council said they could likely attend.

There was some debate over what time to host the event, but nothing was decided.

Council voted unanimously in favour of supporting the levee and waiving the hall fee for the Jan. 1 event.
