‘So much damage’

Dear Editor:

RE: “Fitting drink,” Dec. 4.

Do the majority of Canadians really believe that ever-increasing taxes, a growing national debt that requires billions annually to service, a growing drug addiction crisis, a growing homelessness crisis (even among people working two and three jobs), is the way to run a country? According to David Fast, they must. That’s why they continue to vote Liberal.

A failing economy, lost jobs, government handouts to industries that apparently can’t operate without billions of dollars from over-taxed working Canadians, and climate change policies and fees to “save the planet” (even though we contribute just 1.4% of the world’s emission) – in a Liberal voter’s mind must be considered a victory. Conservative voters, however, see all of this as a failure of government. Elections are not a game. Elections are important to the peace, prosperity, standard of living, mental health and happiness of not just today’s citizens, but for future generations.

So, Liberal voters, I can say without hesitation that your “winning party” has caused so much damage in the last 10 years that you have not earned the right to be so smug and self-satisfied.

‘Wonderful event’

Dear Editor:

The Optimist Club of Puslinch would like to extend a heartfelt thank-you to all the sponsors, volunteers and community members who came together to make the 2025 Puslinch Santa Claus Parade a big success.

The weather cleared just in time on Nov. 23 for the festive floats, colourful clowns, cheerful animals, lively bands and Santa himself to make their way down the parade route. Despite the chilly temperatures, hundreds of excited children lined the highway, eager to take in the sights and sounds of this much-loved annual tradition.

After the parade, the celebration continued as families gathered at the Optimist Recreation Centre to warm up with hot chocolate and hot dogs served by the Optimist Club. Children enjoyed meeting Santa, snapping photos and mailing their Christmas letters straight to the North Pole.

Thanks to the generosity of parade attendees, many families in our community will experience a brighter holiday season. Food collected along the parade route will support the local food bank, and donations made will help the Children’s Wish Foundation to continue its meaningful work.

This event remains a cherished community favourite, made possible only through the ongoing support of local businesses, organizations and residents. Please remember to thank them – and support them – whenever you can.

New camera idea

Dear Editor:

If there is a major concern about speed cameras, then why not install stop sign cameras?

Place an appropriate number of stop signs equipped with cameras along the streets in question. The effect is obvious; traffic slows to a crawl, kids are safe and council continues to “pick” the pockets of upstanding citizens.

This way everybody is happy, sad or pissed off. Sounds like good government to me (not).
