Influenza A outbreak at Groves Hospital

On Feb. 21, Groves Memorial Community Hospital (GMCH), working in conjunction with Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health Department, has confirmed an outbreak of Influenza A, more commonly known as the flu, on its Complex Continuing Care (CCC)/Surgical Unit.

GMCH Staff continue to monitor all patients and staff for illness and have implemented its Infection Prevention and Control action plan to contain the outbreak and protect patients, visitors, volunteers, staff and physicians.

Visitor restrictions are in place for the CCC/Surgical Unit until the outbreak is declared over. Visitors wishing to come to other areas of the hospital are welcome. However, if you have are not feeling well do not visit the hospital patients. You must be symptom free of illness, for 48 hours, before visiting a hospital patient. Anyone visiting a hospital should wash and sanitize their hands regularly before, during and after a visit. These precautions will help reduce the chance of passing an infection to seriously ill patients.

GMCH will continually review the status of the outbreak and keep patients, staff and the public updated.
