Hundreds attend grand opening of new Guelph Legion

Hundreds of local residents, veterans and dignitaries attended the Sept. 10 grand opening here of the Royal Canadian Legion’s new Colonel John McCrae Memorial Branch 234.

Guelph Legion president Terry Timbers welcomed everyone to the event at the impressive new building on Watson Parkway South, and guest of honour Jack Frost, the Honorary Grand President of Ontario Command, congratulated locals on their new branch.

Others dignitaries at the ceremonial ribbon cutting included the Legion’s Ladies Auxiliary president Jean Harron, Rev. Dr. Ron Smeaton, Guelph MP Frank Valeriote, Guelph MPP Liz Sandals, Guelph Mayor Karen Farbridge and Legion Zone C-2 Commander Lynda Hagedorn and veterans Frank Taylor (Army), Dr. William Winegard (Navy), Michael Seitz (peacekeeper and Cold War), Clint Martin (Korea), Steve Nessner (Air Force) and Kevin Doyle (Afghanistan).
