Horticultural society hears about planting tips, towel folding

The Harriston and District Horticultural Society met in the auditorium for its February meeting.

The president opened the meeting with O Canada. Mem-bers enjoyed a reading.

Plan to donate to the silent auction in April; give information to Linda. Everyone is welcome.

Sharon O’Sullivan, from the North Wellington Seniors Council spoke about the coming workshops, Gardening for Seniors.

There are eight vendors for the garden show in June.

Elizabeth Riddell of Your Creations  in Harriston is exhi­biting at the National Home Show Feb. 19 to 28. Anyone attending can visit her at booth GH. She has a booth at Successful Gardening show, March 18 to 21.

The Think Recycle program is working well, keeping one half million computer cartrid­ges and cell phones out of the landfill. Bring cartridges or phones to May Douglas or to any drop off centre.

Coming in 2010 - the launch of digital cameras being included in the program.

The speakers were Margaret Reidt and Willa Wick. Reidt gave great tips on planting by signs of the moon and comp­anion planting. The best plant­ing times are between the first and second quarter of the moon each month. Rotating crops is very essential. Gardening is like a marriage and one must have the right partner.

Wick demonstrated folding of towels and serviettes. Members enjoyed the folding of the towels, and got to try their luck at folding serviettes, some to make flowers.
