‘Homepreneurs’

Since we began publishing Business Leader I have been blown away again and again by the amazing businesses we have here in Wellington County.

Last week I had the privilege of meeting a few “homepreneurs” at LaunchIt Minto’s fifth anniversary celebration in Harriston. Homepreneurs have home-based businesses and LaunchIt Minto is helping bring them together.

As a former freelance writer, I understand the isolation you can feel when you have a home-based business and you have few opportunities to interact with other business people – especially if you’re just starting out and don’t yet have a network of supports. Through LaunchIt Minto these homepreneurs are finding their own community as well as opportunities they may not have known existed.

Maureen Searle at Hands and Needles, who creates handcrafted items for babies, children and the home; Barbara Richmond at Silent Impact Intl, an independent Nikken self care consultant; Rabecca Witzke of RW Photography; and Elaine Young of Whats Inside the Box, were among those who met as homepreneurs. Some are even working together to help promote each other’s products.

In addition to spotlighting these homepreneurs, the LaunchIt Minto anniversary celebration also featured the new and improved LaunchIt Minto space. The renovation makes the building even more appealing.

If a business chooses to leave its original community, it’s always a comfort to move just one town over. Loyal customers of The Perfect Piece, a store specializing in high quality home decor items,  will still be able to visit the store, while new retail relationships will also be a possibility.

Owner Jessie Lea Koch opened in late 2018 in Mount Forest and recently moved to 55 Elora St. in Harriston.
