Health Unit: Pap test can save lives
Each year, 1,300 to 1,500 Canadian women are diagnosed with cervical cancer; almost 400 will die of the disease.
Regular Pap tests can reduce the risk. In October, Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health is offering free Pap test clinics to women over 20 years of age who don’t have a family physician or can’t access a Pap test from their physician.
Regular Pap tests can identify changes in cells of the cervix and provide early warnings for unhealthy cervical cells or cervical cancer. The test can also identify infections such as the human papillomavirus (HPV).
