Harriston fall fair features country carnival and demolition derby

HARRISTON – “Flannel Shirts and Denim Skirts” is the theme of the 2022 Harriston-Minto Fall Fair, which takes place from Sept. 16 to 18.

“I am excited to announce that we are finally going to be once again celebrating the Harriston-Minto Fall Fair in person,” states Harriston-Minto Agricultural Society president Katherine Noble in a message to fair-goers.

“You can expect to see our traditional events such as the baby show and demo derby along with some new and creative events.”

She added, “We have something for the whole family to enjoy and a variety of exhibits to showcase the many talents of people in the community.”

An Ambassador of the Fair competition was held on July 8, with Shaelyn Thompson named ambassador and Ellie Bowman junior ambassador.

Fair gates open on Sept. 16 at 6pm, with opening ceremonies slated for 7pm. A pork and pie auction, lawn mower races and a country carnival are also included on the Friday night schedule.

Fair fun starts at 9am on Saturday, with exhibits, a light horse show and a petting zone on the fairgrounds leading up to the start of the fall fair parade at noon.

The country carnival continues on Saturday afternoon, with a dog show, baby show, and heavy horse pull also on the schedule. 

A Country 93 video dance begins at 8pm Saturday evening for those aged 19 and up.

Sunday’s events begin at 8am, with a fair breakfast. An antique car show on the fairgrounds and a soap box derby on Elora Street are among the morning activities.

Sunday afternoon events include a pedal tractor pull, beef show, big bale rollout and demolition derby.
