Guelph man dies after vehicle hits hydro pole

A Guelph man was killed after his vehicle hit a hydro pole here last week.

Dead is Eric Nielsen, 23,  of Guelph.

On March 3 at about 6:50am, Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police received a call regarding a serious collision involving a single motor vehicle on Stone Road East near Watson Road in Guelph-Eramosa.

“A male driving a pickup truck left the road and struck a hydro pole,” police stated in a press release. “He was taken by air ambulance to a Hamilton Hospital with serious injuries and was later pronounced deceased.”

Police later identified the man as Nielsen.

Guelph-Wellington EMS paramedics, Guelph-Eramosa firefighters, and staff with Hydro One and Guelph-Eramosa Township were also at the scene. A portion of Stone Road, between Watson Road and Jones Baseline, was closed for several hours for the investigation.
