Guelph man arrested after sexual assault on neighbour

GUELPH – A Guelph man has been arrested after a young neighbour reported being followed home and sexually assaulted in her apartment.

Guelph Police officials say that just after 10pm on Aug. 30, an 18-year-old woman called police to report she had been followed home to her west-end apartment building by a male who lives in the same building.

“The male knocked on the apartment door and was let in by the complainant’s younger sibling,” police stated in a press release. “He partially undid his pants and attempted to remove the victim’s shirt. He also offered to pay her for sex and uttered a death threat. The victim sustained minor injuries.”

Police say there was “another incident three years ago during which the male touched her inappropriately and asked for sex.”

A 49-year-old Guelph man was charged with sexual assault, sexual interference, uttering threats, communicating to obtain sexual services and criminal harassment. He was to appear in court on Sept. 4.
