Guelph Little Theatre to present The 39 Steps
GUELPH – Guelph Little Theatre continues its winter season with The 39 Steps, a theatrical comedy that transforms Alfred Hitchcock’s thriller into a whirlwind of espionage, romance and riotous stagecraft.
Directed by Jane Watson and Brendan Linwood, this adaptation by Patrick Barlow (from the novel by John Buchan) delivers a fusion of Monty Python-style physical comedy with Hitchcock suspense, officials say.
The production opens with a two-for-one preview performance on Feb. 29 at 7pm.
Performance schedule includes:
– Jan. 30, 7pm;
– Jan 31, 2pm and 7pm;
– Feb. 1, 2pm;
– Feb. 6, 7pm;
– Feb. 7, 2pm and 7pm; and
– Feb. 8, 2pm.
The play follows a seemingly ordinary man who becomes embroiled in extraordinary danger after meeting a mysterious woman who claims to be a spy.
When she is murdered in his apartment, he finds himself on the run pursued by both the police and a shadowy organization known only as The 39 Steps.
What follows is a nationwide chase packed with quick-change characters, imaginative stage effects and a finale that leaves audiences breathless, officials say.
A cast of only six actors brings over 100 characters to life.
