Guelph-Eramosa water has perfect score

All water systems under Guelph-Eramosa Township’s municipal care received a rating of 100 per cent compliance in the most recent annual Ministry of Environment and Climate Change assessment.

The systems include  Hamilton Drive, which was evaluated between Dec. 10, 2013 and Oct. 31, 2014 and Rockwood, which was evaluated from Dec. 10, 2013 to Dec. 15, 2014.

The Gazer Mooney Subdivision Distributing System received no incidents of non-compliance in 2014 but the most recent inspection took place from June 2012 to February 2014, at which point it received a 100% compliance score.

As with many municipalities, Mayor Chris White said Guelph-Eramosa is having trouble with frozen water lines. At one point he said there were about 20 frozen in Rockwood.

“There were a large number of folks who helped their neighbours out and let them run water through their hoses over to their home so at least they had some water,” White said. “I wanted to thank those folks who took the time to allow us to get down there and hook that water up.”

He said the meters have been read and rate payers will be reimbursed for additional costs of sharing water with their neighbours and for running water to keep the pipes from freezing.

Director of public works Harry Niemi said the municipality has received a pallet of water bottles from Culligan and another from Nestlé Waters Canada, free of charge, that have been distributed to people who were without water.
