Guelph-Eramosa Township welcomes new Ariss and District Lions Club

The Ariss and District Lions Club was officially chartered on May 30.

The event was hosted by the Guelph Royal City Lions Club which sponsored the new Club, and was held at the Woolwich Community Centre, which was donated by the St. Jacobs Lions Club.

In his remarks at the gathering, Guelph-Eramosa Mayor Chris White welcomed the new club to the township. The Ariss and District Club joins the Mayor’s club in Rockwood.

“Service Clubs are a definite benefit to a community and do a lot of great work,” said White.

District Governor Lion Todd Wilson, of the Elmira Lions Club – assisted by Past District Governors Lion Karen McNeight, of the St. Marys club, and Lion O.J. Wilura, of the Kitchener club – inducted the 26 new Lions.

During the induction ceremony Wilson welcomed the 53rd Lions Club to District A15. Charter certificates, pins and name badges were presented.

Charter President Lion Brian Kurtz, thanked the more than 160 in attendance for coming and also thanked the Lions Clubs who made presentations to the new club. Kurtz said he is looking forward to leading the club on its inaugural journey.

The club is looking forward to its first annual golf tournament on June 25 at the Ariss Valley Golf and Country Club, and has many plans for projects to benefit the community and the work of Lions.

Officials invite anyone interested in serving and fellowship to join the club, as it works on different projects. The club has filed an application inviting the RCMP Musical Ride for 2012 and hopes to be a part of the Guelph Santa Claus Parade this Christmas season.
