Guelph driver charged after police chase

CENTRE WELLINGTON – On Oct. 28 at about 12am, a Wellington County OPP officer received a notification from an automated licence plate reader about a possible stolen vehicle on Sideroad 18  here. 

“When the officer attempted to stop the vehicle, it struck the cruiser and left the area at a high rate of speed,” police stated in a press release. “Other officers began to patrol for the vehicle and observed it enter the ditch off of Highway 6. The driver attempted to flee on foot but was subsequently arrested by officers.”

Erich Klug, 27, of Guelph, was charged with flight from a peace officer, failing to stop after accident, driving while prohibited, assaulting a peace officer, possession of property obtained by crime (over $5,000), failing to comply with a release order and two counts of dangerous driving. 

The accused is to appear in Guelph court on Dec. 19.
