A grub infestation at Victoria Park in Hillsburgh has forced the closure of the park for the entire season.

Though the actual infestation occurred last year, Town Manager Lisa Hass told council on May 6 that staff has made the decision to close the park for this season as well.

Hass explained that the grass hadn’t even started to grow at the park, and the town would have to re-seed the ground and also spray it again later this season.

She said it’s probably best to give the grass some time to grow so the field is ready for the 2009 season, and added that everyone who was scheduled to use the Hillsburgh park has been moved to either nearby Barbour Field or Centre 2000 in Erin village.
