Groves Memorial Community Hospital (GMCH) has officially received approval from the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care to complete Stage 2 of the capital planning process for the new hospital.
“This News continues to build on our momentum as we work towards designing a new hospital in Centre Wellington,” GMCH board chair Paul Smith stated in a press release.
This stage will allow Groves Hospital to further define the type and function of programs the hospitals will provide, and the space requirements for each service.
It will also allow for further exploration of key factors such as patient volumes and staffing needs to establish design requirements that will form the foundation of more detailed architectural drawings of the new hospital in Centre Wellington.
This stage also includes a phasing plan, projected budget, schedule and local share plan.
“We look forward to working collaboratively with our health care partners to continue to move ahead through the capital planning process,” states Smith. “Our next step is to submit Stage 2 plans to the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care’s – Health Capital Investment Branch by the end of January.”
GMCH president and CEO Jerome Quenneville, recognized the team effort it has taken to move the hospital planning forward.
He stated, “There have been countless hours of work that staff, practitioners, board members, partners, volunteers, our foundation and the Waterloo Wellington Local Health Integration Network have given to accomplish the gains to date – a tremendous team effort.”
GMCH serves a local and regional population of over 32,000 and treats over 68,000 people annually. The hospital currently operates 44 beds, with over 285 staff and over 300 volunteers.
