Group starts green energy campaign

Doctors, nurses, and leading health charities are launching an advertising campaign to support renewable power and the speedy phase-out of coal-fired electricity.

It is the first time in Ontario health professionals have undertaken such an initiative.   Under the heading, Doctors and Nurses Support Green Energy, the campaign says last year the province’s coal plants caused over 150,000 illnesses and over 300 deaths.

The Registered Nurses’ Association of Ontario, the Canadian Association of Physicians for the Environment (CAPE), the Asthma Society of Canada, and the Ontario Lung Association supported the ads.

CAPE executive director Gideon Forman, said, “If decision-makers ignore this message, they’ll have a lot of unhappy health professionals on their hands.”

The ads are running in 17 Ontario Newspapers (including The Advertiser) .
