Grant from Ontario Trillium Foundation gives Guelph Wellington Seniors Association better acoustics

GUELPH – The Guelph Wellington Seniors Association (GSWA) has used a $27,200 capital grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF) to retrofit 40 additional soundproofing panel upgrades in its thirty-year-old auditorium.

MPP Mike Schreiner met with the Guelph Wellington Seniors Association (GSWA) recently to discuss the capital grant.

The project was completed in September and will dramatically improve the facility space and make it more accessible for those with hearing loss at the centre for years to come, GSWA officials state.

“As the Member of Provincial Parliament for Guelph, I want to congratulate the GWSA” on receiving the grant, Schreiner said.

“The GWSA has been empowering seniors to lead active, healthy, and fulfilling lives through its diverse program and activity offerings.

“I am always impressed with their commitment to providing respectful and innovative services to our older adult community here in Guelph Wellington.

“The GWSA will be using this capital grant to further address the needs of the community by retrofitting the gymnasium with 100 soundproofing panels to dramatically improve the space, making it more accessible for those with hearing loss.

“I would like to thank the GWSA for their continued commitment to supporting our community, enabling older adults to be active and involved.”

The centre is used by a variety of community organizations for meetings, celebrations, and fundraisers.

Significant impact

And thanks to the OTF grant, people of all abilities ages will be able to better hear those speaking at a podium or singing in the space.

“The impact of this Ontario Trillium Foundation grant cannot be overstated,”  said GWSA president Pat Gage.

“This grant has allowed needed renovations to be made. The auditorium is used by a number of activity groups during the day, but we also want to host more music and theatrical productions.

“We want to congratulate the Ontario Trillium Foundation on 40 years of granting and building healthy and vibrant communities across the province.”

The City of Guelph is committed to preserving this space and ensuring that it remains accessible for many community activities over the course of the year.
