Grand Valley man charged with attempted murder

SOUTHGATE – A Grand Valley man faces an attempted murder charge in connection with a recent fire in Southgate.

On Dec. 11 at 2:49pm, emergency crews responded to a fire at a residence on Southgate Road 24.

“There were occupants inside this residence at the time that the fire was set,” police stated in a press release.

Dundalk Fire Department officials confirmed the fire was deliberately set and Grey Bruce OPP officers conducted “a lengthy investigation” with help from Mount Forest Forensic Identification Services and the Grey Bruce Crime Unit, police say.

Benjamin Komisar, 35, of Grand Valley, was charged with uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm, two counts of attempted murder and two counts of arson (disregard for human life). He had a bail hearing on Dec. 14 and was taken into custody.
