Goode returns to 'hometown' department
A few weeks after announcing his resignation as Erin’s fire chief, Steve Goode was formally announced as the new deputy fire chief in Puslinch.
Goode, who lives in Puslinch Township and was previously a training officer with the Puslinch Fire Department, said he was “extremely honoured,” to return to the department as deputy-chief.
He said he resigned from the Erin department, effective Nov. 20, due to “personal reasons” - notably that the Erin job was “too busy” for him, considering his young family and his job as a full-time firefighter in Cambridge.
“Plus, [Puslinch] is my home town,” Goode said. However, he has promised to stay on with the Erin department until it finds his replacement.
Goode told the Advertiser he applied for the Puslinch position about a month ago and officially started with the department on Sept. 21.
Fire Chief Bob Gordon last week introduced Goode, who councillors said was one of six applicants, of 15 total, to be interviewed.
“The quality of the applicants was extraordinary,” said councillor Matthew Bulmer.
Mayor Brad Whitcombe called the interview process a “successful” one and said it was good to have Goode back with the Puslinch department.
“Welcome home, Steven, and congratulations,” said Whitcombe.
Council unanimously passed a bylaw approving the hiring of Goode as deputy-chief.
