Food skills featured at Taste Real festival this weekend

GUELPH – Interested in learning how to bake your own bread, make cider or successfully start a container garden?

At the Taste Real Local Food Fest, visitors have the opportunity to reacquaint themselves with traditional food growing and preparation skills.

On June 23, the public is invited to celebrate local food in Guelph and Wellington County on the grounds of Ignatius Jesuit Centre, from 11am to 4pm.

Sausage making, wild foraging, vegetable fermenting, growing oyster mushrooms and bee keeping are just some of the many exciting free food skills workshops offered by Minga by 10C, Guelph’s shared community hub. The festival features exhibitors, vendors, live music, kids activities, craft beer and cider, orchard tours, as well as food and agricultural demonstrations, such as sheep shearing and spinning.

Patrons can enjoy a local food lunch and samples from one of the many participating food establishments.

Children of all ages are welcome, and the event offers a wide variety of family activities, including wagon rides, face painting, the Guelph Grotto climbing wall and more.
