First county baby of 2015 born at Groves

On Jan. 1 Lesley and Charlie Morrison of Fergus welcomed their daughter, Molly, to the world.

Molly Grace was born at 5:21pm at Groves Memorial Community Hospital on New Year’s Day, weighing eight pounds, four ounces.

Molly is the first baby born in 2015 in Wellington County.

Big sister Anna is two years old and excited to welcome Molly to the family. Charlie said she had been talking about the arrival of her sister for the last six months. When asked if she loved Molly, Anna said “yes” without any hesitation.

Lesley and Charlie said they didn’t name Molly after anyone in particular. “We just really liked the name,” Lesley laughed.

Molly was due on Dec. 31 but the couple was still surprised when Lesley went into labour.

“We joked with our friends that we were going to have the New Year’s baby,” Charlie said, but they didn’t expect it to actually happen.

On Jan. 2 at Groves Centre Wellington Welcome Wagon representatives Helen Marucci and Virginia Burns presented the family with gifts donated for the New Year’s baby from local businesses.

Marucci said more than 36 businesses participated and they received donations from many organizations this year that hadn’t donated in the past.  A huge hit was a giant teddy bear the size of Anna, which she played with from the moment she saw it.

Born less than an hour after Molly, was Ariyah Rain Medeiros at Palmerston and District Hospital to mom Michelle Medeiros.

Weighing seven pounds four ounces, Ariyah jumped her Jan. 12 due date and was born on Jan. 1 at 5:49pm. Ariyah’s weight and length, 21cm, were the same as mother Michelle’s when she was born.
