Final leaf and yard waste pickup set to begin around county

WELLINGTON COUNTY – Urban residents across Wellington County are being reminded that final 2020 curbside collection of leaf and yard waste is coming up soon.

Final collection for residents of urban areas of Minto, Centre Wellington (east of Highway 6), Wellington North, and Puslinch, begins on Nov. 23, states a Nov. 20 notice from the County of Wellington solid waste services (SWS) division.

Final collection in urban areas of Mapleton, Centre Wellington (west of Hwy 6), Erin, and Guelph/Eramosa begins Nov. 30.

Residents are asked to ensure leaf and yard waste is at the curb by 7am on the first collection day for their area. Collection will continue throughout the week until all material is collected. Leaf and yard waste set out after 7am on the Monday may not get collected.

Some acceptable leaf and yard waste materials include leaves, twigs, small branches no more than 92cm (three feet) in length and 8cm (three inches) in diameter, garden trimmings, and fallen fruit and nuts from trees. Some unacceptable materials include plastic planter pots, plastic bags, grass clippings, large branches, soil, and sod.

Leaf and yard waste must be in brown paper yard waste bags or in reusable cans clearly marked “yard waste.” Small branches may be in tied bundles. Loose leaves, loose branches, and oversize brush will not be collected.

SWS officials are also reminding residents to set out user pay garbage bag(s), blue boxes and green bins by 7am on their regularly-scheduled collection day.
