Final draft of community improvement plan to be presented March 23

The Township of Centre Wellington has released the final draft of “Improve Centre Wellington,” its proposed Community Improvement Plan.

It will be presented to council at the March 23 committee of the whole meeting for final approval.

Community Improvement Plans (CIPs) are created to create improvements in targeted areas of a community.

This plan will allow the municipality to create financial or other types of tools, or direct capital investments – such as tax increment-based grants – that work towards achieving its economic development and community goals.

The sole purpose of the CIP is to authorize incentive programs for rehabilitation, development and redevelopment projects within the targeted areas of Centre Wellington.

The targeted areas are lands designated industrial, highway commercial, central business district, residential transition area and mixed use according to the township’s official plan.

Residential areas are not included within the scope of this plan.

As a major economic development tool, the CIP incentives will be used to market the community as a location for investment and redevelopment.
