FERGUS - The Fergus Fall Fair is the latest event to be cancelled as part of the fallout of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Fergus Agricultural Society announced the cancellation of the fair - set for Sept. 18 to 20 - "with great regret" on April 29.

Also cancelled is the society's Breakfast on the Farm event on June 20.

"This was not an easy decision for us to make, but at this time of uncertainty, we thank you for your understanding and support," states a press release from the society's board of directors.

Officials said the decision to cancel the two popular events was based on "making the health and safety of our volunteers, community partners and attendees (the) top priority."

The press release noted the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic "is one of the many challenges we have faced since our inception in 1836."

Society officials remain dedicated to their objective "to encourage agriculture awareness and to promote improvements in the quality of life in our community," the press release states.

The next Breakfast on the Farm is planned for June 19, 2021 and the Fergus Fall Fair will be held Sept. 17 to 19, 2021.

"We look forward to seeing you next year," states the press release.
