Erin town council briefs

The appointment of a town crier, new employees, insurance coverage and additional meetings were some of the items discussed at Erin’s March 17 council meeting.

Water meter reader

Doug Broderick has been hired as a casual part time water meter reader for the town. He will be paid the grade 7 base rate of the Town of Erin part time hourly wage grid, plus $0.55/km for mileage.

Broderick has over 30 years of experience in customer service and is knowledgeable in computer software. He is involved in many community activities and meets the fitness requirements for the position.

The position of water meter reader was included in this year’s draft budget.

Town crier

Andrew Welch was re-appointed official town crier at Erin’s St. Patrick’s Day council meeting after his performance to open the proceedings.

WSIB coverage

Erin is providing Workplace Safety and Insurance Board coverage in 2015 for 65 municipal firefighters at the annual maximum insurable allowance of up to $85,200.

That is for injury and sickness coverage regardless of what they are paid, explained director of finance Sharon Marshall.

Erin council set addition meeting dates.

– a special closed meeting on March 24, at 9am;

– strategic initiatives special meeting on April 14, at 7pm;

– strategic initiatives special meeting on April 28, at 7pm;

– regular council meeting on July 13, at 7:30pm; and

– a regular council meeting on Aug. 11 at 7:30pm.
