Erin to raise Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation's flag

The town of Erin will be “commemorating the start of a meaningful relationship” with Mississaugas of the Credit First Nations and neighbouring Indigenous communities with a formal flag exchange and official flag raising on July 1, the town said in a press release.

Former chief of the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nations, Carolyn King, will be present and will speak about the land and the history of the property.

The ceremony will take place at the municipal office at 11am on July 1.

“The town is working towards creating a formal land acknowledgement where we are able to recognize that the land on which we gather is part of the Treaty Lands and territory of the Mississaugas of the Credit,” said Mayor Allan Alls.

“Developing our relationship with the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nations is incredibly important to us and we are honoured to have former chief, Carolyn King, at our ceremony.”

This event is free of charge and open to the public.
