Erin council approves new engineering firm

The municipality has decided to use a different engineering firm than it has previously to save $9,000.

On Dec. 16, council approved GSS Engineering to be the consultant for the water rates and financial plan study at a rate of $13,795 plus HST.

The firm will be taking over for Watson and Associates, which has been the traditional consulting firm.

The idea is that the cost saving on the consultant will hopefully limit water rate increase.

“I must admit when I looked at the price difference I wondered (about) the qualifications for the company or the individual, but looking through his qualifications and the company I see no reasons to be concerned,” said Mayor Allan Alls.

“It’s a good saving for the town.”

The next water rate study will set rates for the next five years.
