Erin, Centre Wellington receive emergency preparedness funds
FERGUS – The Ontario government is spending $112,065 in Wellington-Halton Hills for emergency preparedness.
Funding is being delivered through the Community Emergency Preparedness Grant (CEPG).
“Part of our government’s plan to protect Ontario is making sure every community is prepared in the case of an emergency,” stated Wellington-Halton Hills MPP Joseph Racinsky in a press release.
The following municipalities are receiving CEPG funding:
– Erin, $49,000 to address growing risks associated with electrical energy failures and cyberattacks that could impact critical infrastructure like the town’s new water recovery facility;
– Centre Wellington, $32,637 to update emergency shelter supplies, staff training and the purchase of a drone to assist firefighters in emergency response efforts; and
– Halton Hills, $30,427 for new audiovisual conferencing equipment, portable emergency operations equipment and annual incident management system training for emergency response staff.
“This investment strengthens the Town of Erin’s readiness and operational resilience in the event of an emergency, helping to ensure essential services remain available when residents need them most,” stated town clerk Nina Lecic.
Erin chief technology officer Asher Jaffri added, “As a municipality, we must be prepared not only for physical emergencies, but also for technology-related disruptions that affect everyday services.
“This funding enables us to apply modern digital and resilience practices to protect critical services, strengthen emergency readiness, and deliver long term value to our residents.”
Emergency preparedness minister Jill Dunlop said the CEPG funding “is strengthening the readiness of local communities and organizations to better prepare for any type of emergency.”
She added, “Whether it’s modernizing an emergency operations centre or investing in a generator to power a warming centre during a winter storm, these investments help to protect communities across Ontario.”
