Elora Street rebuild set to begin after Victoria Day

Reconstruction of Elora Street from Park Street to West Heritage Street in Clifford is set to begin after the Victoria Day (May 21) weekend.

The reconstruction is part of a four-stage plan, with section one completed in 2017.

Section two will be work between Park Street and Allen Street. A third stage will be work between Allen and James Street, and the fourth section runs north from James Street to about 50 metres south of the village limits at West Heritage Street.

Reconstruction will include upgrades to water mains, road section/drainage improvements, and potentially the extension of sanitary sewer from James Street to the village limits.

A provincial contribution of nearly $1 million will help pay for the final phase of the reconstruction project.

Minto council was advised in a letter from Minister of Transportation Steven Del Duca in April of 2017 that the province will contribute up to $987,665 towards the Elora Street Connecting Link between James and West Heritage Streets.

In 2015, Minto was awarded $1.9 million to design and reconstruct the Park to James Street section of the project.

Economic development committee meeting minutes presented at the May 8 Minto council meeting note a Clifford Digging It 2018 website is up and running and plans for social media communications on the project are underway.

Project plans and maps can be found at www.clifforddigginit.ca.
