Elora man charged with careless driving in death of Guelph pedestrian

GUELPH – An 85-year-old Elora man has been charged with careless driving in connection with the death of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle here.

On Jan. 14 at about 9:40am, emergency crews responded to a collision on Woolwich Street in front of the Evergreen Seniors Community Centre in Guelph.

Police say a 79-year-old pedestrian from Guelph was hit by a vehicle and suffered serious injuries.

OPP officers arrived on scene and performed CPR and the man was transported by paramedics to Guelph General Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

The driver of the vehicle, an 85-year-old man from Elora, was also transported to hospital. He has been charged with careless driving causing death and is to appear in Guelph court on April 7.

The pedestrian’s name is being withheld pending notification of his next of kin, while Guelph Police do not identify those charged with crimes.
