Elmira man dies of injuries after serious crash
An Elmira senior died as a result of injuries sustained in a three-vehicle crash here last week.
On Aug. 19 at about 2:42pm Wellington County OPP received a report of a three-vehicle collision on Wellington Road 8 at Wellington Road 9 in Mapleton Township.
Wellington and Perth County OPP responded, along with Mapleton Fire and Rescue, Guelph-Wellington Emergency Medical Services and the roads departments from Wellington and Perth.
The male driver of a car, 68-year-old Allan Poffenroth, was transported by ambulance to a local hospital then airlifted to Hamilton General Hospital with serious injuries. He later succumbed to his injuries.
The male driver of a tractor trailer was transported to a local hospital and the driver of the third vehicle was not injured.
Members from the OPP Technical Traffic Collision Investigation Team attended the scene and the intersection was closed for about six hours.
