ROTHSAY – One driver has been charged following a collision here on Tuesday that closed a county road and left many in the area without electricity for several hours.

Emergency crews responded to the intersection of Queen and Elora streets (Wellington Roads 10 and 7) in Rothsay on Sept. 27 at about 1pm.

Wellington County OPP officials say a pickup truck and a commercial vehicle collided.

"The commercial motor vehicle subsequently struck a hydro pole and live hydro wires were across the roadway," police stated in a press release.

"No injuries were reported, but the roadway was closed for several hours while the hydro lines were repaired."

The driver of the pickup truck, a 51-year-old from Listowel, was charged with disobeying a stop sign.
