The Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are reminding pet owners not to leave pets unattended in a hot motor vehicle.

On a day where the temperature is 26 C, the temperature inside a vehicle parked in the shade reaches 32 C.

If you leave your motor vehicle in the sun the temperature can reach 71 C.

The Criminal Code of Canada has sections dealing with mistreatment of animals including possible penalties from two to five years in jail. Anyone who sees an animal which may be in distress is urged to contact police.
