A dog that viciously attacked a boy here last month was put down, but its owners will not be charged, police announced last week.

The dog, a bulldog mix and thus not a restricted breed, was turned over to the Guelph Humane Society following the July 17 attack.

A nine-year-old boy was visiting a friend on Wellington Road 16 when a dog from a neighbouring property attacked him.

The boy suffered serious injuries after being bitten on his face, head and body, requiring dozens of stitches.

Wellington County OPP officials stated the owner of the dog willingly surrendered it to the humane society to be euthanized following a 10-day quarantine period.

Police announced on Aug. 4 that “after consultation with the provincial prosecutor from the Crown Attorney’s office, it has been determined that charges will not be laid.”
