Diabetes appeal raises $50,000 locally

Every cent counts when you ask volunteers to go door to door in search of donations for the Canadian Diabetes Association (CDA) in support of its many programs, services and research projects.

Team captains for the North Perth-North Wellington Branch of the CDA enlist the services of hundreds of canvassers who head out knocking on doors after the Thanksgiving holiday weekend leading into November, the traditional month for Diabetes awareness.

A total of $50,765 was raised in 2014.

Chairman George Van Ankum said the CDA appreciates all the support.

“We are grateful for every dollar and every cent donated through our annual residential canvass,” he said. “It takes a lot of effort for everyone to go door-to-door, but it is so worthwhile when you find you have reached the goal, and even surpassed that $50,000 mark.”

Volunteers can be reached at the Diabetes Information Centre at 94B Elora Street South in Harriston at 519-338-3181 or npnw@diabetes.ca.
