Death of ‘unidentified’ man now deemed suspicious by OPP

Police say autopsy will be conducted Aug. 6 to determine cause of death

GUELPH-ERAMOSA – Police continue to investigate what they are now calling a “suspicious death” here.

On Aug. 4 at about 7:15pm, emergency crews responded to the area of Watson Road near Wellington Road 124 after the body of a dead male was located on the road by a passerby.

“The Wellington County OPP Crime Unit commenced a death investigation, under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch, along with OPP Forensic Identification Services, and in partnership with the Office of the Chief Coroner for Ontario and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Services,” states an Aug. 5 press release from the OPP.

Police say an autopsy will be conducted on Aug. 6  to determine a cause of death of “the unidentified male.”

Watson Road is currently closed between Speedvale Avenue East and Wellington Road 124 and police are asking motorists to avoid the area.

“While the investigation is in the preliminary stages, police want to remind members of the public to always be aware of their surroundings and personal safety,” police stated.

Police say further updates will be provided “when they become available.”
