CWDOG seeks vendors for garage sale

The Centre Wellington Dog Owners Group (CWDOG) is issuing a general invitation to charities, clubs, churches, Sports teams and antique dealers who wish to participate in a large multi-vendor garage sale on May 31 at the Fergus Dog Park.

Local businesses and professionals are also welcome to register as vendors.

Named “The Great Wellington Garage Sale,” the event aspires to be the region’s largest annual garage sale, with 30 to 40 vendors expected in its first year. Similar events elsewhere have attracted upwards of 6,000 visitors.

Proceeds from sale will go to fund improvements to the Fergus Dog Park and to support the care of rescue dogs awaiting adoption through the Grand River All-breed Animal Rescue.

“People love to go garage saling for bargains,” says event organizer Michael Stanson.  “And the larger the sale the better.”

He adds the garage sale was also envisioned as a way to enable a large number of non-profit groups in the community to bring in some extra funds.

“With each group drawing its own supporters, we’ll attract a much larger crowd collectively than any of us could alone. It’s a real community event,” said Stanson.

The Great Wellington Garage Sale will also feature entertainment, demonstrations, face painters and food vendors in an effort to make it a fun day out with the family. Local restaurants will be invited to participate so that visitors can enjoy an epicurean taste of Fergus/Elora.

The event will be run entirely by volunteers. Dog owners, students and other residents of Centre Wellington are asked to consider volunteering for this worthy cause. Groups wanting additional information about becoming a vendor can visit the event website at thegreatwellingtongaragesale.com.

CWDOG was established in 2009 when the off-leash park in Fergus was launched as a pilot project by the Centre Wellington Parks and Recreation Department. The volunteer group helps to keep the park clean and safe for dogs and dog owners and also maintains a website (cwdog.org) that serves as an information resource for dog owners in the region.
