Curl for a Cause back for 17th annual charity bonspiel

FERGUS – Curl for a Cause is back for its 17th annual charity bonspiel on March 23 at the Fergus Curling Club.

“Our community has been so generous in supporting our efforts to raise money for local charities and together we have raised and donated over $550,000 to local charities over the last 16 years,” officials state in a press release.

“This huge accomplishment would not have been possible without our amazing community members and local businesses.”

This year, the club is taking a slightly different approach to distributing funds – all funds raised will support the Aboyne Rural Hospice.

Bruce Hawkins founded Curl for a Cure as a remembrance for his favourite uncle and his much-loved brother-in-law.

It was called Curl for a Cure, and all monies were donated to cancer-focused charities, including the Groves Memorial Community Hospital’s oncology unit.

As the years passed, Curl for a Cure changed its focus to other local charities and became known as Curl for a Cause.

For 2024, the club is evolving once again to support the Aboyne Rural Hospice.

“We hope that you will join our vision as we return to our health care origins,” officials state.

Planning for Curl for a Cause is well underway and the team is currently looking for:

– corporate sponsors;

– advertisers;

-auction donations;

– teams to participate; and

– volunteers to help run the event (no curling knowledge necessary) .
